Founded in 1914 by the Grandfather of the present Managing Director, Stephenson's remains a family business concentrating on providing exceptional levels of customer service. Based in Nelson, Lancashire, current turnover is £7.5m, 85% of which is in the locally delivered wholesale business.

Having moved to larger premises the original site is now the Stephenson's Fine Wine retail outlet. The wholesaling operation, which includes a cash and carry point, offers a "one-stop-shop" for local pubs, clubs, hotels and restaurants to obtain all their beers, wines, spirits and sundries.

Offering a same day delivery service on orders placed any time up to 9.00am on day of delivery, the company provides this level of service 364 days of the year.

Increased speed of telesales order entry is a vital part of Stephenson's strategy of improved customer service. With direct telesales order entry, the three telesales operators have immediate access during the call to information on stock availability, credit status, alternative products, promotions and previous order details.

To further improve customer service the product range has been increased to include non-food items such as glasses and cleaning fluids.
